WHEREAS there is currently no structure or means for this $25,000 line to be properly allocated; therefore the 48th Student Senate proposes


A Bill

Be it ADVISED: that this structure is used for the rest of the 2009-2010 academic year.

A board shall review all applications from faculty-sponsored and IRB approved students. Applications shall be received, reviewed and granted on a rolling basis. These grants shall be awarded out of the Research Grant line established in the 2009-2010 budget. All applications shall be submitted either electronically to vpacademicaffairs@newpaltzsa.com or to the SA Business Office, SUB 428 during business hours: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

The board shall consist of:

  1. One undergraduate student nominated by the VPAAG and confirmed by the Senate.
  2. One graduate student nominated by the VPAAG and confirmed by the Senate.
  3. The Vice President for Academic Affairs and Governance.
  4. Ray Schwarz, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs (ex officio non-voting member)
  5. Maureen Morrow, Director of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship Creative Activities (ex-officio non-voting member)
    1. OR another willing professor from RSCA
  6. An alternate will be nominated by the VPAAG and confirmed by senate and will attend all meetings as a non-voting member unless an alternate is needed.

Proposal Format:

  1. Will include all pertinent information about student, professor, research subjects, and type of research.
  2. A preliminary supply budget, not exceeding $750, must be submitted. Presentation costs will be directed to the Conference Line.
  3. The faculty member involved will be required to include a general project description outlining the basic hypotheses, variables, and anticipated results.
  4. The student will be asked to comment on their involvement in the project and the benefits it will incur for them.

Proposal Evaluation:

  1. All paperwork filled out and answered adequately.
  2. Method and budget are appropriate.
  3. Project advances knowledge in the field or results in progress in the field.
  4. Role of student is appropriate
  5. Overall impression.
  6. Contribution to the diversity of projects.
  7. No overlap between projects already funded by AYURE/SURE.
  8. Each research project cannot be funded more than once.
  9. There must be a unanimous vote to pass the research proposal.
  10. Appeals for addition money will be presented before the Research board of the Student Association.
