WHEREAS Dr. Cheryl B Torsney has recently acquired the position of Interim Provost; and
WHEREAS a new search will commence to review the qualifications for prospective
applicants to fill the position of the Provost of SUNY New Paltz; and
WHEREAS the roles and responsibilities of the Provost of this University include
but are not limited to: being “the College’s chief academic officer...”
overseeing “The Graduate School, the Sojourner Truth Library,
Academic Advising, Center for International Programs, Sponsored
Programs, the Honors Program, and the Center for Teaching and
Learning, the academic affairs budget” , working “with faculty,
governance groups, and other administrators to develop academic
policies and standards…” and act as "…the chief personnel officer for
academic employees, including responsibility for hiring and evaluating
faculty”; and
WHEREAS all of these responsibilities either directly or indirectly affect the lives of the students of SUNY New Paltz; and
WHEREAS those effected should have an active voice and input in affairs involving their education, as well as their interests; therefore the 52nd Student Senate proposes

Be it DECLARED: The Student Association of SUNY New Paltz call for the presence of at least ONE SUNY New Paltz student to actively participate in the upcoming Provost Search Committee to represent the opinions and needs of the student body.
