Description:
Activist Based Group
Purpose:
Community Roots is an activist based group that works to unite the different ethnic communities on the SUNY New Paltz campus. Our goal is to search for liberating alternatives to local and international social problems by working collectively, maintaining an open-mind and enhancing our understanding of social issues that encourage separation rather than unity. In order to form true camaraderie, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, social class, sexuality or religion, our programming focuses on developing truly interpersonal relationships along with providing access to information. Through the process of organized mentorship, Community Roots will help to encourage a younger generation of students to take action in their own communities. In our attempt to combat social injustice we plan to present a well organized and educated movement on and off campus that will inspire other students and youth to think globally, but act locally
