Description:
Chemistry club is a group dedicated to learning and teaching Chemistry in the community.
Purpose:
The Chemistry Club is a group of students that are interested or excited about Chemistry and want to do more in New Paltz to share Chemistry based concepts. We host Cram Nights where the department hires a tutor and the night is spent studying a few days before the exam. This helps students feel more comfortable about the upcoming exam and gives them time to prepare before hand and ask questions of their professors. It is meant to provide a less stressful environment for studying. The Chemistry Club also reaches out in the community with events like Mole Night which is in the week of 10/23. This is where local elementary school students and parents are invited into the Chemistry labs in CSB and Chemistry club members do Chemistry based experiments based on the theme for that year. The kids have a great time and it shows them that science can be fun. There are also events called Chemical Coolness in which we invite other New Paltz students into the lab and members of the Chemistry Club perform demos for them. This is more of the fun type of experiments that students don't really get to experience in lab. This tries to draw people into the Chemistry club and the Chemistry department.
