Purpose:
First World Graduation is a student organization that recognizes the achievements of students of color on campus. First World, as an organization, looks to celebrate the various cultural heritages that are represented at SUNY New Paltz and throughout the years the ceremony has become more inclusive. It has changed its focus to fit the needs of its participants and acknowledge the achievements of all students interested in participating. We seek to provide a culturally rich ceremony that recognizes individuals as well as their heritage. First World Graduation has an annual commencement, traditionally held on the day before graduation. It is a more intimate commencement ceremony. The purpose is to acknowledge the contributions of the graduates of color for their outstanding achievements and also to celebrate who we are as a people.
