Description:
Amateur boxing club centered around SUNY New Paltz
Purpose:
A fun, safe, and practical way to stay in shape, learn self defense skills, and practice a disciplined lifestyle. Club meetings start with a warm-up of 10-15 minutes. the larger portion of the meetings (30 minutes) consist of a lesson concerning a particular aspect or facet of the sport. for the last 15 minutes, we drill the concept we learned in a "line drill" Fashion, moving up and down the floor practicing the movement or technique we learned. As an optional half hour post meeting, members which have demonstrated knowledge and ability conducive to safe and supervised sparring are allowed to do so. This sparring is light, with heavily padded gloves designed for sparring, full wrap head gear, and mouth guards. The goal of sparring is not to get practice for fights, but to experience the lesson in a less predictable, and more fast paced way. Ultimately the boxing club is a way for people to get together to enjoy an age old sport, with supervision and coaching to make the process more enjoyable for all.
