Purpose:
SIAM is the student organization that is focused on using applied math concepts to help students use and learn how to approach real world problems. A wide range of students are part of SIAM, whose studies range from math, physics, engineering to chemistry, computer science, and education. Our activities include include the SIAM lecture series, where we invite in house professors to present their research to a student audience, an annual Integration Bee where students use their calculus abilities to compete, and our sustainability research initiative. This semester, SIAM is engaging in a carbon inventory project to help the school and student community gain a better understanding of energy and resource usage. We are also working with the Environmental Task Force and other student organizations to introduce practical ways to reduce impact and spread awareness. SIAM will continue to engage students and provide a venue for exploration in mathematical concepts and apply them to building sustainability oriented solutions.
