Description:
Basically we cook
Purpose:
The purpose of the cooking club is simple. We want to bring a new flare and excitement to the art of cooking. We want to show students it can be more than just your mother cooking to get dinner on the table in time. When walking around campus, or sitting in Hasbrouck, we hear many students complain about different situations involving food; whether it is not knowing how to properly prepare chicken, or the fact that they can’t make anything other than Ramen noodles. We want to fix that. We will teach food safety and fire safety (of course to lower the fire drills, which are microwave related) and provide healthy recipes with interesting substitutions. In an article published recently it stated children that were involved in cooking of meals were more likely to eat what was cooked outside the home. Besides cooking simple recipes and learning how to properly work in a kitchen, we want to become involved in the community and talk to local vendors. For example learning how to make pizza at Fat Bob’s or Gourmet or having Judy Steele or Cody Ritson from Rock da Pasta show us and teach us different ways to cook pasta, which is the best food for beginners to start cooking with it. We have a passion for cooking and we hope to share our excitement with other who feel the same way and maybe convert a couple on the fence.
