Description:
(FTA) serves education majors and undecided majors who are interested in the field and to prepare..
Purpose:
Future Teachers of America meets once a week as well as occasional community service and other field experience events. It is designed to have experienced and knowledgeable speakers come to the club and teach workshops or give lectures. The students will also attend educational conferences as well as educational field trips. This club serves the community and bridges the gap between children and teachers in the local area by performing specific events for the families of new paltz. For example, our field day at Hasbrouk park this coming fall (tentative due to awaiting SA and The Village of New Paltz approval). FTA is also key to helping students find out information about what they need to do in order to succeed in the education program here at SUNY New Paltz. Our speakers that come from the faculty at New Paltz tell students what they need to know about the inner workings of the major program, things that if they were just to go to class they would probably never find out. Other speakers come with real life experience, and therefore have real life examples of what we like to call in the trade "teachable moments". These speakers give us precious strategies that work, and help calm the nerves of students about to enter the field. Either way, every time one comes to a meeting, they leave with some valuable information.
