Basic Information
Here are the basic details of the organization.
Name of the organization:
Student Center for Poststructuralist Studies
Semester:
Spring 2009
Board:
Academic
Intercollegiate:
Not intercollegiate
Description:
A "guerilla think tank" endeavoring to apply poststructuralist theory to the praxes of daily life.
Purpose:
Disillusioned with the rigidity and outmoded linearity of formal academia, the Student Center intends to foster intellectual & personal growth through intermedia showcases, concert performances, highly informal lectures, and discussion groups. Initial emphases will be placed on reconciling Afrocentrism and so-called "indigenous" beliefs with post-1965 developments in Western cultural studies. A newsletter/journal will be printed on an irregular basis. The Center will be working in conjunction with likeminded students at Stony Brook University and Hunter College.
