Description:
promotes sustainable food systems in community and on campus
Purpose:
SSA began 6 years ago, with the help of local farmer Dan Guenther, in an effort to connect students with local farms and educate them about the importance of sustainable agriculture. To this end, we host a variety of speakers, organize documentary viewings, and collaborate with the community to bring about change. We have since worked with the CAS board to bring local food to the campus eateries and arrange for Hasbrouck Dining Hall to contribute to a composting facility in Poughkeepsie. Our largest project this semester will be establishing an organic student-run garden on campus. Jason Rosenberg is the club advisor and has been working with Sustainable Agriculture since Spring 2011.
