Description:
Take part in planning, building and racing a solar car!
Purpose:
In order to more appropriately reflect the club's purpose, the formally recognized section of IEEE has been renamed the Solar Car Team. The SUNY New Paltz Solar Car Team is sponsored by the SUNY New Paltz Student Association (SA), School of Science and Engineering (SSE), and local industries and businesses. The team benefits from the diversity of New Paltz and the broad range of majors. The Solar Car Team is advised by Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Michael Otis and Technical Consultant Lee Cabe (a retired Physics teacher who has over 20 years experience in building championship caliber solar powered vehicles.) Among other things, the students are responsible for: securing funds, raising renewable energy awareness, and researching and developing solar powered electric vehicles targeted for competition at the American Solar Challenge, Formula Sun Grand Prix, and World Solar Challenge races. Participation is necessary across all majors from art and business to math and engineering. We have a spot for anyone looking to partake in the green movement and the national reputation of SUNY New Paltz.
