Description:
A body of students interested in critically reading and producing zines.
Purpose:
The Zine Machine is a group of likeminded individuals who share an interest and passion for zines. While there are varying levels of experience, we are all committed to working together to create and print self-published literature. We represent a support network for upcoming and established zinesters in the area. As a collective, we will promote zine culture on campus and in the town. We will succeed where past zine groups have failed because of our nature as a collective rather than a club. A collective focuses not only on the common interest or goal, but also on the interconnectedness and relations of the members. This is what zines are truly about, getting to know others through their stories and experiences. That being said, we are in no way an exclusive group and we welcome anyone with open arms. Aside from our main objective of printing our individual and collaborative zines, we would like to bring resources and events to the campus that other students can make use of. In the past, groups on campus have hosted writers of zines to come and speak about zines and self-publishing. We aim to bring more of these people to the school. In addition to speakers, we would like to host workshops focused on introducing others to the world of zines and teaching them how to create their own. Another goal of ours is to establish a zine library on campus either in collaboration with Sojourner Truth or independently. We see a library as a one of the best resources for experienced zinesters and for those new to the medium seeking some sort of exposure. If we become really established, we would even like to host an annual zine conference in the future.
